Haunted Mansion made out of Cardboard

Hi everyone, I had so much fun last month making my first house out of cardboard when I created the San Francisco House that I wanted to create another one from cardboard.  I was inspired by this picture I found on the internet of an abandoned house that someone had drawn.  When I started out this house had both sides, but it was to large of a house for what I wanted, so I cut the right side of the house off.  This was one of my hardest designs to try to create since when I started looking at the inspiration picture that there was not one truly even square or realistic edge in the picture.  The porch was also a challenge trying to create it from the picture but I think it turned out darn awesome.  I think I spent about 2 weeks this May creating this Haunted Mansion and it was so much fun and enjoyable using the cardboard.  Yes it kills my hands to do the Thousands of cuts to create the house but so worth it.   I am loving Cardboard and love how I can design so much from it at a Low cost compared to using the fancy Expensive Wood that you have to buy at dollhouse shops.  I spent one day alone creating the interior cardboard boxes and trash and newspapers for the interior, plus I didn't have any fireplaces to put into the home so I created some out of cardboard...lol..  I also am loving how the aged patina came out with the painting process of the house, which for the life of me I don't know if I can remember how to recreate it again.  Again the use of cardboard made the house so light, but also so hard and sturdy.  I hope you all like my newest creation.  Have a Wonderful Month!  Stan

  3. My goodness Stan, I thought the San Francisco house was amazing, but this house in its aged state is perfection itself. I love the architectural design and you have captured that used and worn look so well, even the interiors are perfectly suited.

  6. I work in 1:6 scale now and use alot of cardboard, and builder's foam which is lightweight for my dioramas and shops as well as foamboard and it is fun to work with. I love how you used this cardboard, did you reinforce it in any way? I imagine with 1:12 scale you wouldn't have to reinforce it it like you would 1:6 scale. I have used cardboard boxes for my shops but have reinforced the walls with foamcore walls to give strength. This is wonderfully done, love it! http://theonesixthscaledollhouse.blogspot.com

  23. Hi Stan! I have truly been inspired by your blog recently and have finally made the decision to try my hand at miniatures and dollhouses. I am unsure where to start/what to buy. I am also a fellow Coloradan, so specific spots around town I could into would help also. Any advice? Thanks! EM

  24. Absolutely awesome! I want to make some fairy houses but for the garden so cardboard probably won't work even if I cover it. But it's definitely something I'll keep in mind for inside. Simply a terrific job!

  29. Wonderful. I love to work with cardboard. Have you thought about using a cutting machine? Silhouette Cameo is what I use and you can cut cereal box cardboard with the Cameo 3 although I use the 12x12" sheets of cardboard you can buy online. You can design in the cameo software or in a graphics program. I use Corel Draw but Inkscape is a free program online. https://inkscape.org/release/0.92.3/ You can cut all your shingles and or pieces in minutes. My dollhouse are half scale, 1/24. I also use foam core board with card stock printed out and glued to it. https://www.etsy.com/listing/103380169/on-sale-for-a-limited-time-doll-house?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=printies&ref=sr_gallery-1-5&organic_search_click=1&bes=1 I love your work. It is amazing.
